FACULTY
Ruth A. Sorensen, D.V.M.
Dr. Sorensen earned her Bachelor’s degree in equine science with honors from Colorado State
University and then continued on to gain her doctorate from the veterinary college. She then
completed a post-doctoral internship in order to specialize in the specific needs of sport
horses. She now practices in Virginia Dale, Colorado.
Besides being a veterinarian, Ruth is an accomplished rider and horse trainer. “I like to
think of myself as a rider who happens to be a veterinarian, rather than a veterinarian who
happens to ride.” Ruth has trained horses and riders in a variety of disciplines for over 20
years. She worked as the head wrangler at several Colorado ranches and has also ridden Andalusian
stallions in exhibition shows. Presently, she competes in Dressage with her own Lusitano stallion.
As an equine ambulatory veterinarian, she uses her knowledge as a trainer to evaluate difficult
lamenesses in performance horses. In her “spare” time, she authors articles for equine
publications and conducts seminars for horse owners and veterinarians around the country.
